WASHINGTON—Dec. 8, 2020—The Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) released the following statement from president and CEO John Neuffer in response to House passage today of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). The NDAA includes Title XCIX, “Creating Helpful Incentives to Produce Semiconductors for America,” which sets forth provisions authorizing the establishment of federal incentives to promote semiconductor manufacturing and federal investments in semiconductor research.

“House passage of the NDAA is a critical step toward strengthening U.S. chip technology, which is at the heart of America’s economic growth, national security, and global technology leadership. The NDAA supports needed incentives for domestic semiconductor manufacturing and investments in chip research, both of which will help keep our industry and our country at their competitive best. We commend Reps. Matsui and McCaul for their leadership in advancing the amendment, applaud the House for voting on a bipartisan basis to approve the underlying bill, and urge the Senate to swiftly follow suit and send the NDAA to the president’s desk for signature.”
