WASHINGTON—Jan. 29, 2020—The Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) released the following statement today from President & CEO John Neuffer regarding President Trump’s signing of legislation implementing the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA). SIA represents U.S. leadership in semiconductor manufacturing, design, and research, with members accounting for approximately 95 percent of U.S. semiconductor company sales.

“Today’s signing of legislation to implement the USMCA is a big win for free and fair trade in semiconductors and the many tech products they enable. The agreement will help preserve and strengthen the digital economy and greatly benefit U.S. companies and consumers alike. We are pleased the USMCA preserves the many positive elements of the original NAFTA, while integrating new and higher-standard disciplines that will shape the future of the global trading system. We urge Canada to ratify the USMCA in short order and encourage all three countries to satisfy the obligations needed for the agreement to enter into force.”
